michellejordan717@yahoo.com Michelle Jordan has been the Katy High School Color Guard Director since 2010. In that time, the program has experienced growth and competitive success. Under the direction of Mrs. Jordan, in 2011, Katy High School had its first Winter Guard program again after a 10-year hiatus. The program has experienced so much growth that in 2015, a second Winter Guard team was born creating the JV and Varsity Winter Guards. Since then, the program has gone on to earn three state championships in the Texas Color Guard Circuit; Novice class in 2011, Regional A class in 2012, and Scholastic JV class in 2016. The JV team also won the TCGC Silver medal in 2017. The program has also won many first place awards at Winter Guard competitions throughout the years, as well as earning the “Outstanding Auxiliary” award at the Dickinson Marching Contest in 2013 and 2014, and the “Best Color Guard” award at the Battle at the Berry Center competition in 2016. Finally, after a 15-year hiatus from the national stage, the Katy JV and Varsity Winter Guards began competing in Winter Guard International Regional competitions in 2016, and they have consistently been selected as finalists. Mrs. Jordan is the designer and choreographer for all Color Guard and Winter Guard productions at Katy High School. She also does choreography and designs for other schools in the area, most recently including Ridge Point High School (TCGC 2015 Silver Medalists) and Cypress Lakes High School. In 2013, Mrs. Jordan also created the West Houston Spin Show, an annual Solo and Ensemble contest for Color Guard students across the Greater Houston area. She is on the technical staff for both Spirit Independent Winter Guard from the University of Houston, and Axis Color Guard, an independent winter guard based in Katy, TX. Before joining the Katy High School Band Staff, Mrs. Jordan attended Stephen F. Austin State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in both Music Education and Music Performance as a flute player. While attending SFA, Mrs. Jordan was the designer and choreographer for the SFA Lumberjack Marching Band Color Guard for 3 years. Mrs. Jordan then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Flute Performance from Louisiana State University. She currently teaches private flute lessons to many students in the Houston and Katy Independent School Districts and does flute master classes throughout the year. Mrs. Jordan is a member of the National Flute Association and the Houston Flute Club. She resides in Katy, TX with her husband, Klint, and son, Alexander. |
