Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director
Brannon Baker is in his 12th year of teaching and is excited to once again be a member of the Katy Band Staff. He conducts the Concert Band and oversees the percussion studio (percussion ensembles, marching season, indoor percussion, concert bands, and beginner JH percussion classes).
Mr. Baker began his public teaching career as an Associate Band Director at Lee High School in the North East ISD of San Antonio in 2007. After 4 years, Mr. Baker became the head band director at Lee in 2012 where he oversaw all aspects of the program including the marching band, concert ensembles, percussion studio, and indoor programs. The marching band was a consistent UIL Sweepstakes recipient and both the indoor percussion and color guard programs were successful in the TCGC/TECA circuits. Lee Indoor Percussion was the TECA State Champion in 2013 & 2015 and earned 4th Place in 2017 at TCGC in the Scholastic Open Class Division.
Mr. Baker recently served as the Director of Percussion, Battery Percussion Arranger, and Music Ensemble Coordinator for the World Class Genesis Drum & Bugle Corps based in Austin, Texas during the 2017 season. In 2015 and 2016, he served as Percussion Caption Head. As a performer, Brannon was actively involved with Drum Corps International playing snare drum for 5 years. From 2001-2003, he marched with Revolution Drum and Bugle Corps based in San Antonio (2002 Division III Champion and High Percussion Award) and from 2004-2005 he was a member of The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from Allentown, Pennsylvania. Brannon earned the “Cadet Rookie of the Year” Award after his first season with the Cadets. During his age-out year as a marching member, The Cadets won the Fred Sanford High Percussion Trophy and the 2005 DCI World Championship.
Mr. Baker graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. Mr. Baker studied conducting under Dr. Rob Carnochan and Glen Richter. He was also a member of the percussion studio, studying with Tom Burritt, Ben Finley, and Thad Anderson. While at UT, Mr. Baker performed with the percussion ensemble, steel pan ensemble, and Symphony Band. During his five-year tenure at Texas, he also performed with the Longhorn Band, serving as section leader/composer for the UT Drumline during his senior year.
Mr. Baker’s professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association
