We are incredibly excited to introduce the newest addition to the Katy Tiger Band staff! Alex AsKew will be joining us as an Assistant Band Director.

Alex AsKew is going into his 10th year as a music educator. He was born and raised in Greensboro, NC and attended Ragsdale High School. Afterwards, he attended UNC Greensboro and received his undergraduate degree in music education in 2016. Alex has taught at Cuthbertson High School from 2016-2018, East Forsyth High School from 2018-2024, and Needville ISD during the 2024-2025 school year. He lives with his wonderful wife, Emily AsKew and their wonderful puppy, Molly.

Alex has performed in many different kinds of groups: collegiate orchestras and bands, brass quintets, chamber ensembles, brass bands, marching bands. He also performed with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle corps from 2010 to 2013, and won back to back DCI Championships with the Concord Blue Devils in 2014 and 2015.

Alex currently works with the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle corps as a brass instructor and has spent the last four years working at High Point University with the marching band. He founded and played horn with the Guilded Brass Quintet, played horn and trumpet with the Winston Salem Civic Orchestra and has conducted the Triad Area Medical Orchestra for the last three years. Alex has also conducted the Wachovia Winds Youth Wind Ensemble and the Winston Salem Community Band. He currently performs with the Sugar Land Winds, a 2025 Sudler Silver Scroll recipient.
